I'm coming from this at a totally different angle. As a mother of two teenagers, 5 pets and a husband, I'm rarely ever alone, but...when I find myself talking to the dog too much, I know I need to get out. I crave more time to be alone with my art...

Keep an eye on this museum for future exhibits - the abstract show ends 9/21. The show's focus was on how 2 art critics influenced the expressionist period and it showed the progression of art through that period. Unfortunately, in my opinion, there weren't enough paintings from artists like Helen Frankenthaler or Grace Hartigan. The show had only one or two paintings from each artist represented - I would have loved to see lots more, but that would have required a much larger space and as it is the exhibit took up two floors in the museum. The exhibit will travel to St. Louis next and then the Albright-Knox Museum of Art in Buffalo, NY.

Busy in the studio

My students and I made handmade paper this week. We experimented with cotton linter, brown kraft paper pulp, newspaper pulp, napkin and tissue paper pulp, and laser printer paper pulp. The kids enjoyed placing the pulp into clay cookie molds. When dry, they painted and decorated them. We found the newspaper pulp to be very stinky, but the others were not smelly at all. It's been a learning process to figure out how much pulp is needed to make a decent sheet of paper. I finished up the pulp after… Continue
